Four F400 units have been fitted in-line with the engines of both of Dorset Cruises' passenger boats; the Dorset Belle and the Bournemouth Belle.
The units were sold to Dorset Cruises ltd in the spring and are now in-line with the twin 200hp John Deer and twin 200hp Perkins Sabre diesel engines that power the sister boats, which carry up to 200 passengers a day from their bases in Poole Harbour and on Bournemouth Pier.
The two steel-hulled boats were built in the 1970s on Poole Quay and now enjoy the fuel economy benefits alongside the emissions improvements offered by the Fitch.
Midland Chandlers - specialist in canal and narrow boat equipment. The company which was established in 1979 supplies everything from battery charges to gear boxes. The Fitch is featured heavily on line and is making its mark in the riverboat market. Midland Chandlers eagerly took on the Fitch units in June 2009 after the E P Barrus report was published.
E P Barrus - the country's largest supplier of marine engines and accessories took on the Fitch in May 2009 and is a heavyweight in the market - it offers some of the most powerful brands in the marketplace, be it leisure or commercial, it has a range of high quality marine engines, boats, parts and accessories to suit all requirements and Barrus is actively marketing the Fitch as a complementary product in this market! This deal was borne out of the success of the evaluation undertaken on a Yanmar 4HLA with a F500 fitted in line and the evaluation showed an improvement in fuel economy of 5.7% and undeniable reductions in emissions.
